About the role

What you'll be doing

You'll help ensure our Huddersfield energy recovery plant operates safely and at peak performance:

  • Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across all plant areas, ensuring installations and modifications comply with the latest standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, and technical support to junior staff and contractors to foster skill development and safe working practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across different functions to support smooth, cross-team operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues promptly to maximise plant availability and efficiency.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, health & safety, and environmental compliance.

What are the requirements?

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and career stages — your practical experience and enthusiasm for reliable, sustainable operations are what matter most:

  • Predominantly mechanical background with basic electrical knowledge, ideally from an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Technician/Engineer in manufacturing, production, or heavy industrial environments, with knowledge of conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics (basic electrical fault-finding highly beneficial).
  • Ideally qualified to City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Ability to use Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) (highly desirable).
  • IOSH qualification (desirable but not essential — we'll support you to gain it if needed).

We value work-life balance and can offer some flexibility on core hours (e.g., to support school runs or caring responsibilities) and, where operationally possible, the option to condense contracted hours into a 4-day week. If flexible working would help you thrive in this role, please mention it in your application — we’re open to discussing what works for you.
