Assistant Electrical Engineer
(Internal title: Assistant Technical Plant Engineer)
Location: Based in any SUEZ UK Site NATIONAL TRAVEL REQUIRED
Salary: £37,135 -  £43,561
Benefits: Company Car or Car Allowance (up  to £7,356), Annual Bonus up to 10%, 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays, 3x life assurance policy.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK is looking for a motivated Assistant Electrical Engineer to support our energy-from-waste, landfill, and resource recovery facilities across the UK. This is a hands-on role where you will gain experience working on electrical systems, supporting operational teams, and contributing to projects that improve plant reliability, performance, and safety.


40% UK travel (On average 2–3 days per week, including overnight stays)

About the role

What will I be doing?

As an Assistant Electrical Engineer, you will work closely with experienced engineers and operational staff, assisting with engineering projects, fault-finding, and system improvements across our sites. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a practical, real-world environment while contributing to a company committed to sustainability and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with technical support on electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure across SUEZ facilities.
  • Support site teams with troubleshooting, fault finding, and resolving electrical issues to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Assist in engineering projects, including preparing specifications, tender documentation, and supporting installation and commissioning activities.
  • Contribute to electrical system modelling using ETAP software or similar tools.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance teams, and other engineering disciplines to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support when required.
  • Ensure all engineering activities follow relevant standards, legislation, and SUEZ safety policies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance electrical system performance and resilience.

What are the requirements?

  • Degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience working with industrial electrical systems outside of a training role e.g apprenticeship or a minimum of 2 years’ experience outside of graduate scheme 
  • Understanding of high and low voltage systems and previous high voltage authorisation is beneficial but not essential at this stage.
  • Familiarity with Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems is a plus.
  • Interest in learning project management processes, producing technical specifications, and supporting contractor oversight.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and site personnel, and willingness to travel to sites across the UK as required
