As a Laboratory Technician in our Inorganics Department at Derwentside Environmental Testing Services (DETS), who offer a wide range of high quality accredited analytical services for the environmental, construction, waste, fuel and engineering industries, you’ll be helping customers reduce their impact on the environment.

About the role

You will analyse and investigate results for a range of scientific work. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures ensuring that procedures are followed and notify other relevant employees when this has not been complied with.

What will I be doing?

Undertake laboratory analysis of water and soil from a variety of sources and on occasions other matrices in strict adherence to analytical methods standard operating procedures.

Analysis and investigation of results in conjunction with the senior staff.

Develop, validate, review, update and implement standard operating procedures, for work undertaken in their area of responsibility, in conjunction with senior staff.

Ensuring that procedures are followed routinely and departures or changes are brought to the attention of the Laboratory Analysts or Section Head.

Undertake data entry using a Laboratory Information Management System

To uphold and comply with the statutory provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any other relevant legislation and policies or procedures relating to Health & Safety at Work.

The Laboratory Technicians will uphold and comply with the requirements of UKAS Accreditation.

What are the requirements?

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of G.C.S.E grade C or above in Science, Maths and English or two years laboratory experience. You will Proactive approach to work, as well as being organised, Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook.
