Operating across the public and private sectors, and serving millions of customers every day, SUEZ has a wide and diverse range of stakeholders - from politicians, regulators and the media - to business directors, academics and householders.

What will I be doing?

Across the business, SUEZ is undergoing a dramatic transformation to help the United Kingdom become more resource-efficient, by replacing traditional waste disposal methods, such as landfill, with a host of new technologies and services designed to extract the maximum value from the things we throw away, thereby also conserving natural resources.

  • As a member of the communications team, telling this story and influencing others to play their part in this “Resource Revolution” is key to the role.
  • You will be part of a strong communications team and responsible for formally managing many of these relationships. 
  • You will support the Corporate Affairs Manager for the South, and help to implement the communications and public affairs strategy for our large Southern region, which spans from Cornwall in the west to Suffolk in the east, and up to the Midlands.
  • Working within the corporate affairs section of the communications team, you will support the delivery of the comprehensive corporate affairs strategy for the region – producing first drafts of collateral, conducting research, and organising events.
  • You will help to evaluate the success of communications activity in their region by using appropriate, objective, monitoring and measurement tools.
  • You will map and build a database of key journalists, influencers, politicians and sector peers across the region to help effectively manage our relationships with key stakeholders. 
  • This is a client facing role and you will also provide communications support to high-profile clients – helping them to implement communications strategies around our service offering.
  • You will support internal communications campaigns to engage and involve the thousands of people working for SUEZ across the southern region, writing copy and producing a newsletter for the region.
  • You will be responsible for media monitoring across the region, analysing and circulating coverage to key external and internal stakeholders.

What are the requirements?

  • You must take an active interest in public policy issues across the region, including policy and legislation specific to London.
  • You must be comfortable dealing with the press, as you will sometimes be the first point of contact for media enquires in your region, before gathering information and drafting responses. 
  • You will be a creative thinker and excellent communicator. With exceptional writing skills, you will create clear, concise and engaging copy for a wide range of audiences and for a wide range of purposes. 
  • With a keen news sense and inquisitive nature you will have an eye for a good communications opportunity.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to understand and interpret complex information - in particular, the ability to proof-read documents, is critical to the role. 
  • With a courteous, professional, confident and client-friendly demeanour, you will be comfortable being the main point of contact for communications for their region in the absence of the Corporate Affairs Manager and able to build relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • You should take an engaged and active interest in the recycling and resource management sector, relevant policy issues and wider associated industrial developments. Experience in this sector is not essential as long as you can demonstrate your ability to learn quickly and experience of working in professional communications.
  • Sound skills in Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint are essential, and an understanding of digital creative tools such as Newsweaver and photo/video editing, as well as social media, is desirable.
  • You will have some public relations and/or public affairs experience, having worked in an agency setting for private or public sector clients for at least a year. 
  • You will ideally have an A-level or degree in English.
  • You must be willing to travel extensively across the region, as required, and will therefore need to hold a valid UK driver’s licence.
