Summary of vacancy

We are recruiting for a talented and ambitious person to join SUEZ recycling and recovery UK as a Senior Investment Manager based in Maidenhead. This role combines your commercial knowledge with financial acumen in developing environmentally friendly recycling and waste recovery projects. You will have a minimum of five years’ experience in structuring and financing major infrastructure projects, and have financial modelling gained in a large corporate organisation, developing/auditing project finance models.

About the role

What will I be doing?

  • This is an exciting opportunity requiring strong financial and commercial skills delivering environmentally friendly recycling and waste recovery projects.
  • You will be responsible for delivering project financial models / business plans, and contribute to the contracting and financing / re-financing of the projects, and major corporate investments.
  • You will be involved in a breath of activities that utilise your financial and commercial skills, including; financial modelling and evaluation of private finance initiative (PFI) contracts, corporate investments, participate in contract variations, participate in raising financing and refinancing of projects, special purpose vehicle (SPV) financial modelling, bid pricing, and leading financial / commercial aspects of tenders, contract negotiations, due diligence work.
  • You will financial evaluate projects using ungeared and geared evaluation techniques.
  • You will participate in the financial and commercial contract negotiations to ensure the contracts are commercially viable.
  • You will develop and audit of financial models consistent with the contracting structure and SUEZ UK business solution.
  • You will assess project risk, sensitivity analysis and mitigation measures.
  • You will participate in due diligence work for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and disposals.
  • You will be involved in contract variations, refinancing, update of financial models – to optimise contract performance, improve shareholder returns and client affordability.
  • You will update the SPV operational models with actuals and revise project forecasts. 
  • You will compare project performance against the bid model. 
  • You will report on financial covenant compliance.
  • You will develop commercially sound, competitive pricing of the bids / projects.
  • You will produce bid / financial contract documentation – such as payment mechanism.
  • You will produce approval documentation and present to the board.
  • You will make recommendations about funding arrangements – liaison with funders.
  • You will liaison with the internal project team and external advisors, banks, lawyers.
  • You will hand over the project model and contract documentation to the project and finance teams, provide training and support.
  • You will create medium term plans (five years) showing cash flows and profit and loss (P&L).

What are the requirements?

  • Qualified accountant - or a similar financial qualification.
  • Must have a degree in accounting or a similar financial qualification.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience of running/auditing financial models in Microsoft Excel (including visual basic for applications (VBA)) to evaluate projects by using geared and ungeared evaluation techniques.
  • Commercial acumen; understanding of key business drivers, risks, competitive pressures.
  • Ability to interpret risk allocation of complex contracts/subcontracts, assess risk and pricing implications.
  • Understanding of the relevant tax and accounting treatment to be followed in the models.
  • Knowledge about financial markets / banks to finance infrastructure projects.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail.
  • Be proactive and enthusiastic, eager to learn and improve.
  • Ability to communicate with wide range of seniority levels, and financial and non-financial staff.
  • Good time management and ability to deliver within tight deadlines.
