Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Intern Opportunity:- 2020 / 2021 academic year

Water is a scarce resource and we pride ourselves in tackling this problem head on, finding cutting edge solutions to allow our customers to recover and reuse industrial water. We are now recruiting interns, for the 2019/2020 academic year, to join us for a 12mth placement.

UK overview:

In the UK our activities include engineering facilities that design and build water treatment equipment, mobile water treatment equipment, ice pigging, water and soils testing laboratories and consultancy wervices. We carry out the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants for customers along with field-based Engineering services, sales and chemical monitoring, as well as the construction of water treatment plant facilities.

We are a really friendly organisation, with a wide range of activities that will give you a good introduction to how Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality aspects are managed in the corporate world. The HSEQ team will ensure you get to know everyone that you work with and understand the importance of building good working relationships early in your placement.

About the role

The Opportunity

The HSEQ Intern will primarily sit within our UK, Ireland and Nordics HSEQ team assisting with all aspects of their operations in the region. There may be the opportunity to work with the wider HSEQ team across the European business and will primarily include supporting the HSEQ and operations teams to ensure compliance with corporate and local objectives.

You will use our electronic HSEQ Management systems to follow up and ensure that proactive and reactive actions are being taken to the required timescales and that, where corrective actions are required, they are implemented in a timely manner. This will include maintaining business certifications to ISO 9001/14001/45001 and OHSAS18001, as well as specialist accreditations such as the Legionella Control Association.

Additionally you will:

  • Assist local management in the preparation and presentation of HSEQ meetings.
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents concerns and near misses.
  • Support the business units and QHSE team in the preparation and collation of HSEQ statistics, reports and prequalification information for customers
  • Assist with audits of operations activities

We'll need you to be flexible and have great people skills; you won’t mind helping out with other tasks when we are busy and it’s an ‘all hands’ situation; You will understand early on that our customers matter to us.

You will spend your time in industrial factories, laboratories, offices and on customer sites; Working with our teams and growing in skills and confidence as you progress through the internship, leading projects and leaving a legacy of meaningful work at the end of your tenure.

This internship will have lots of opportunities for training, exploring the SUEZ business and improving your engineering knowledge and skills.

Key activity and experience you'll develop:

  • Tracking of HSEQ data in management systems and reporting results.
  • Managing compliance system to drive HSEQ performance improvement
  • Supporting the HSEQ team at their facilities, during field visits and by providing reports and data.
  • Organising, administering and facilitating external training
  • Chasing up invoices and PO’s related to QHSE activities

Required qualifications / skills:

  • Undergraduate on a Health, Safety, Environmental, Scientific or Engineering type course 
  • Some work experience preferable.
  • Strong Organization, Communication, Time Management and Teamworking skills.
