SUEZ UK is looking for a Contract Director to oversee the Greater Manchester Combined Authority contract, worth over £1 billion, responsible for the delivery of the region’s full range of waste collection, recycling and recovery services.

About the role

What will I be doing as a Contract Director?

With full responsibility for this complex integrated waste contract, you’ll be accountable for all contractual, regulatory, operational and financial aspects, along with ensuring the social value commitments SUEZ have made to the region are also fulfilled.

Core duties will include:

  • Responsibility for the service delivery associated to the MTR, MRF, TLS, transport, container workshop, HRWC operations and contract data team
  • Developing, implementing and delivery of the day-to-day operational strategy required to deliver the financial and contractual targets
  • Creating long term strategic plans for continuous improvement and growth of the contract
  • Directing your team and provide exceptional leadership to guide a large operational workforce, whilst representing SUEZ to a range of regulatory stakeholders and be the public facing representative for the service
  • Full responsibility to ensure all contractual changes are notified to the client in accordance with contract and that any valid claims for compensation are fully recovered
  • Managing all key sub-contracts that support the delivery of the services in the main contract including all negotiations with Trade Union Representatives
  • Reporting performance against the contract through the collation and submission of monthly and annual reports.

To give context of the size of this contract, revenue responsibilities with be circa £80 million, the operating profit is an estimated £4 million per annum and the workforce totals over 650 employees.

What are the requirements?

You will need the proven breadth and depth of relevant operational industry knowledge, having held senior management positions within large waste services contracts, across multiple sites, disciplines over a substantial geographical area.

Coupled with this you’ll be a leader, able to drive and deliver change, with a demonstrable and proven background of successfully managing, maximising and delivering the commercial requirements of similar contracts.

Specific knowledge and qualifications:

  • Significant operational and/or managerial knowledge and experience of waste logistics, HWRC’s, RTS, Transfer Stations, logistics and MRF
  • A track record of delivering against financial targets and KPI’s
  • Experience of financial planning, budgeting and capital improvement is essential.
  • Experience of managing integrated SHEQ management system (ISO 90001/14001/18001) - NEBOSH qualified
  • Understanding of compliant operations and Lean / Six Sigma working practices (Green Belt certified).
