Working in a dynamic but solid sector where you can help create a greener UK

There has never been a more exciting time to be part of this industry with radical change being driven by government policy and a more environmentally conscious general public. SUEZ’s values are passion for the environment, customer first, respect and team spirit.  As a multi-national company providing services in the waste and water sectors in the UK, for 30 years, we are a strong and ambitious company which is continuing to grow, even in these uncertain times.  Our mission is to make SUEZ the global leader in environmental services, working with the public and private sectors to make the UK a greener, more environmentally-friendly country.

About the role

What will I be doing?

The job will involve working closely with our regional directors and commercial managers drafting and advising on contracts.  You would also work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, bidding and negotiating new commercial contracts (predominantly with public authorities) as the company seeks to increase its market share.  We will be building new facilities and part of the role will involve managing external lawyers on engineering procurement and construction contracts.

What are the requirements? (Experience and qualifications)

You will be a solicitor or barrister or have an equivalent legal qualification - ideally 5+ years PQE advising the private and/or public sector with exposure to PPP project work and ideally construction law, although the latter is not essential for the right candidate.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate good knowledge of contract law (advising and drafting) and ability to manage external lawyers.

Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, you will provide legal support to one of the four regions of our national business.  Whilst our headquarters are in Maidenhead we will consider candidates that are not local (we’ve all been getting more used to working away from the office) but there will be a requirement to come to Maidenhead and other regional offices for meetings.

Main duties and responsibilities

Contract review and negotiation.

Drafting documents using a commercial, client focussed style.

Ability to build strong relations with senior business colleagues and work with them to find practical solutions to a range of difficult problems.

Be a team player with a keen interest to share skills and experience with legal and non- legal colleagues.
