It’s a career that’s not only exciting, but full of opportunities as well as professional and personal fulfilment.

About the role

What will I be doing as a Senior Technical Plant Engineer?

Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert support to our fleet of Energy from Waste (EfW) plants, located throughout the UK, with a focus on combustion and heat recovery processes, in particular boilers and other pressure systems.

This will involve the project management of large outage projects and commissioning of mechanical systems, working with other discipline engineers in the team and managing contractors, to improve the OEE of operational plant.

You will also create and review Safe Operational Procedures and Safe Maintenance Procedures, providing expert guidance on and assist with:

  • Pressure systems operation.
  • Lifting systems operation.
  • Maintenance processes and systems.
  • Inputs into Engineering Requirements of major projects.
  • Technical and safety assessment and modification of mechanical systems.
  • Site based personnel with inspections of installed equipment and providing guidance on predictive replacement dates.
  • Root cause analysis into failures of equipment across the fleet.

You'll work closely with operations to assess and review plant performance shortfalls and how these can be rectified, mentoring other Engineers and graduates within the business to develop their skills and knowledge, always ensuring that activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.

What are the requirements? (Experience and qualifications)

You should be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering related discipline and have a strong background in mechanical process plant, ideally within power generation, although other heavy engineering industry such as chemical, refining or steel may also be considered.

Your expertise will include:

  • Combustion and heat recovery processes, in particular boilers
  • Pressure systems, safety regulations (e.g. PSSR) and rotating plant
  • Project management experience, developing, supporting and running multiple projects, aimed at improving overall equipment effectiveness
  • Ability to assess equipment at various sites, understanding specific technical requirements and needs.

You can be based at any of our EfW's but will be working at different facilities, throughout the UK, so there will be the requirement to travel frequently and spend time away from home. As an engineer with SUEZ you will be encouraged to develop and achieve Chartered Engineer status, unless already gained, or you may be currently working towards it.
