Are you an experienced and qualified mechanical maintenance fitter, with experience working in a production process, or even better recycling / waste mangement environment? Does your knowledge include maintenance of machinery including conveyors, motors and gearboxes?

This is a permanent 4 on 4 off 12 hour shift basis, with working hours between 18:00 - 06:00, including weekends and bank holidays.

About the role

What will I be doing as a Mechanical Maintenance Fitter?

Working on a permanent nights, 4 on 4 off shift basis, we’ll look to you to carry out planned maintenance tasks, inspections and servicing of refuse processing, recycling and recovery plant and machinery, with all work completed in order to maximise the operational efficiency.

You will work with the facility operational team to carry out all routine repairs and maintenance issues, such as major component overhauls and repairs, on all fixed and mobile plant by:

  • Providing technical advice to fixed and mobile plant operatives and the Site managers.
  • Ensuring all paperwork and documentation is completed correctly, including daily defects sheets and machine check and counter sign when appropriate.

What are the requirements?

You'll be qualified to City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 (or equivalent), having ideally completed a relevant apprenticeship, with solid previous experience of working on plant machinery, along with the appropriate certificates and licenses and good working knowledge, including:

  • pneumatics, hydraulics and ideally some electrical knowledge
  • efficient and accurate in fault finding with understanding of reasons for failure (wear and tear or operator misuse)
  • ability to identify parts and competence in rebuilds (engine, gear box and motors)
  • excellent knowledge of workshop processes and procedures, including Health and Safety (ideally IOSH but can be gained).
