About the role

What will I be doing?

Based at our headquarters in Maidenhead you will design, develop, and test data products and services, to integrate them into systems and business processes. As a Data Engineer you will provide accurate, traceable data for analysis and exploitation by the data team and wider business.

Working directly and collaboratively with the Data Architect, you will define the best practice for data engineering including technical development, data standards and roadmap, with specific duties including:

  • Creating and maintaining optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assembling large and complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Building the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using appropriate technologies.
  • Working with stakeholders including the Data Architect, BI Architect and business system owners to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.

What are the requirements?

You will have a proven background as a Data Engineer, ETL Developer / Consultant or similar, with experience of ETL development, data modelling, both logically and physically, database technologies and an in depth understanding of SQL Server.

Essential knowledge should include:

  • Substantial experience designing and developing date services and fields
  • Demonstrable experience in multiple data platforms, concepts, and languages (including a combination of SQL, ETL, APIs etc)
  • Data quality concepts, monitoring, KPIs and the importance of data governance.

Experience that would be beneficial:

  • Cloud data services, such as Microsoft Azure Data Factory and including migration from on-premise to cloud
  • Exposure to an industry standard ESB, ideally Mulesoft
  • Master Data Management tools and concepts.
