Derwentside Environmental Testing Services (DETS) specialise in carrying out analytical services in sectors such as environmental, construction, waste, fuel and engineering industries. DETS pride in providing high quality services to an accredited environment (UKAS 17025 standards) and over the years they have seen significant year on year growth and market penetration in the above sectors.

About the Role

  • This role is to be based at Consett, but once probation has been completed successfully, part home-working in the week can be discussed. 

What will I be Doing?

  • To generate opportunities and sell products/services via the telephone primarily. 
  • The Inside Sales Executive manages customer relationships and generates leads for the laboratory.
  • They are accountable for delivering sales targets and for growing sales amongst  customers and support the Services Account Manager to achieve associated sales targets.
  • Issuing high quality quotations, following up and closing opportunities by managing customer contact, matching benefits to needs and handling objections
  • Work closely with Sales Director (e.g. sales performance reviews, personal performance reviews, target setting), Sales Managers, Operations (eg. for more complex sales), Finance (e.g. regarding debt collection) and CLO’s (e.g. customer quotes and supporting responding to customer queries)
  • Ensure CRM (Salesforce) is routinely used to manage sales information and Sales pipeline
  • Achieve sales targets and financial metrics according to the sales plan
  • Work closely with  CLO team managing Tier B/C customers, identifying small customers with the potential for growth
  • Develop and implement call plans comprising new customers, existing customers, lapsed customers to generate new sales opportunities
  • Identify and close opportunities within a given territory (typically >200 Tier C customers)
  • Respond to sales enquiries routed from the lab and / or inbound enquiries, engage with the customers over the phone, qualify requirements and manage opportunities to closure
  • When required  to organise face to face customer visits
  • Building relationships with new customers
  • Develop existing customer relationships to increase loyalty and improve customer retention.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional Suez services / products primarily new services developed by  DETS NORTH.
  • Proactively identify and reactivate Tier C customers that have lapsed trading
  • Follow-up on recent orders to identify additional opportunities
  • Participate actively in regular sales meetings

What are the requirements?

  • 5 A -C GCSEs or equivalent (Maths and Chemistry essential).
  • Any sales qualifications, while not essential, would be desirable.
  • Previous experience in an environment heavily reliant on interacting and communication directly with customers.
  • Previous experience in a sales role would be desirable
  • Application and use of a CRM would be desirable
  • Experience of selling services to customers via the phone would be advantageous
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Confident and professional telephone manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Numerate and accurate.
  • Good organisation and administrative skills.
  • The ability to work to deadlines.
  • Good team working skills.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into viable business opportunities.
  • CRM skills, while not essential, would be desirable.

DETS is a private limited company set up in 1999 and is part of the SUEZ Group since April 2016. Steady expansion has allowed the company to gain a larger market share, and to increase the scope of analyses offered in order to service a wide variety of industry requirements.

Over 100 staff are now employed in our laboratories, and many are well respected within the industry, actively serving on committees and groups such as EIC, AGS, MCERTS, Landfill Regulation, and the Standing Committee of Analysts (see the Management Team section for further details).

DETS are accredited to ISO 17025 and MCERTS for an extensive range of analyses, and are also accredited for sampling.  Samples can be accepted from outside the UK, as a DEFRA import license is also available.
