About the role

This position is a 6 month Fixed Term contract based in the Durham area.

The working hours are Monday - Friday  8.00am to 4.30pm.

The pay rate for this role is £10.44 per hour.

 

What will I be doing?

The primary main purpose of this role is to be a site operative to provide cover for holiday, sickness, absence, assistance, and other related cover for the contract that Suez have with Durham County Council.  You will work across the 4 transfer stations located in Annfield Plain, Newton Aycliffe, Shotton Colliery and Stainton. You may also be required to cover at other Suez sites in the North East.

A requirement of your role will be that you have your own transport available, a travel allowance will be paid to the successful candidate when they travel between any of the above sites.  As this is a ‘floating’ role, you will need to have adequate insurance.

  • Completion of all relevant paperwork and returned to the site supervisor
  • Litter picking around the site which includes working outside
  • Aid with cleaning duties across the whole site including the mobile and fixed plant
  • Maximise recycling and recovery within the facility.
  • Minimise the amount of waste that is sent to landfill.
  • Working to procedures as laid out in the company’s Quality system.
  • Ensure that all operational standards are maintained and relevant legislation is complied with.
  • To follow all company health and safety procedures at all times
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.

 

What are the requirements?

Essential requirements for the position are:

  • Qualification in mobile plant driving – loading shovel
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in heavy plant
  • Experience of a high paced loading environment and the ability to work in a logical calm manner
  • Experience of managing a busy work area
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written), good daily verbal communication is essential in this role.
  • Competent in use of comms – specifically radio.
  • Degree of flexibility is required as working hours will include some Bank Holiday, catch up days and Saturday working.
  • Reliability, honesty, conscientious, practical, safety awareness.
  • Being prepared to work to our company values, including being flexible in a demanding environment.
