About the role

Assistant Team Leader at Blackburn Household Waste Recycling Centre

A full time, permanent vacancy has become available on a busy household waste recycling centre that services Blackburn & Darwen Borough Council. Working days will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Hours 7:45am-7:15pm April to September and 7:45am-5:15pm October to March.

Pay – Thursday/Friday £10.65 per hour Team Leader rate and Saturday/Sunday Site Operative rate £9.65 per hour.

 

What will I be doing?

  • To control daily operations on a busy Household Waste Recycling Centre.
  • To assist and advise customers, in the continuing education of members of public, to maximize recycling on site and divert materials from landfill.
  • Ensure that all site users, employees and contractors comply with all Safe Working Procedures, inductions, Standard Operating Procedures and SUEZ policies & procedures.
  • Carry out Instructions from the management team to maximise the full potential of the site and staff.
  • Maintaining a tidy site and ensuring compliance with the site licence and all relevant legislation.
  • Help the management team with the implementation and progression of all SUEZ Business Systems.
  • Ensuring that within his/her areas of responsibility, SUEZ complies fully with its legal duties in respect of the health, safety and welfare of its employees and of other people who may be affected by his/her actions or omissions.
  • Ensure the site is compliant with the Blackburn with Darwen HWRC contract.
  • Daily admin ensuring that all site paperwork has been completed correctly and within the required time frame.
  • Actively promote Health and Safety through reporting defect, Near Miss reporting and Safety in Mind Conversations as per SUEZ procedure.
  • To completion of a weekly staffing rota and to adjust where required.
  • To ensure all staff maintain good time keeping, and ensure that task, breaks and dinners are allocated fairly and rotated.
  • To assist in the development and training of all staff.
  • Operation and maintenance of mobile plant to required standard in line with training and safe working practice.
  • To complete any training opportunities to meet the criteria of the role.
  • To assist in the operation of other sites within the area.
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested within the scope of the role

 

What are the requirements?

Should be customer focused with strong leadership skills the ability to drive their team to success. This person should be able to demonstrate the ability to prioritise their work load to ensure that all tasks are completed safely and within a time constraint.
