Use your communication skills to engage schools and local communities in Cornwall in reducing, reusing and recycling waste

We’re passionate about building good relationships with the local communities that we operate in and about helping to educate the next generation to reduce, reuse and recycle to conserve our natural resources. We run Cornwall’s network of integrated waste management facilities under a 30 year contract with Cornwall Council. This includes two visitor centres at Bodmin materials recycling facility and Cornwall energy recovery centre, where schools and community groups can learn first hand what happens to their waste and recycling.
 

About the role

What will I be doing as a Community Liaison Manager?

Waste is a valuable resource. You’ll help our community understand and support this idea by creating a programme to raise awareness. It means building relationships with schools, colleges and community groups; managing Community Liaison Groups; creating collateral for different channels; and organising events that support local and national initiatives. 

Our visitor centres welcome hundreds of people every year. You’ll ensure our programme of tours for schools, colleges and community groups is up to date with the curriculum, best practice and industry developments. You’ll also manage outreach events to get our messages out there and show the wider community what we do and the difference it makes in Cornwall. 

What are the requirements? (experience and qualifications)

Qualifications or experience in teaching/education or in the environmental sector are desirable. You’ll have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to engage with all kinds of groups, organisations and individuals using a range of channels. You’ll use the same strong communication skills to build and lead teams (e.g. for events or campaigns) and to ensure they achieve their goals. You need to be organized with attention to detail and able to see ideas through, ideally with some experience of budgeting.
