About the role

Purpose of role

The Business Development Manager will:

  • Develop and deliver a sales strategy for Digital products and services in the UK primarily focussing on the Suez Aquadvanced suite
  • Be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with existing water utility customers and potential new clients and for obtaining new and recurrent business
  • Work with the Suez Global Digital team to gain a deep understanding of our smart solutions portfolio to enable detailed client discussions and presentations.
  • Collaborate with the other Suez entities in the UK to create potential sales synergies
  • Build a sales pipeline >12 months
  • Feed market intelligence back to the SUEZ management, SUEZ leadership and marketing teams
  • Be responsible for developing, managing, and delivering the end to end sales process for Digital
  • Provide input to company Strategy meetings, finding new opportunities to which services can be applied or modified
  • Lead and deliver appropriate tenders for services
  • Identify and manage synergies, opportunities between SES Group and Suez Globally, developing bespoke projects and scopes to the benefit of the group
  • Represent and promote the image of SUEZ in the UK to its main interface
  • The role will be based at Severnside Energy Recovery Centre, although it is expected the role will necessitate travelling to meet clients.
  • The role will cover the UK in the first instance, although has the potential to extend beyond the UK in the future. Overnight stays will be necessary to fulfil this role effectively.


  • The objective for the BDM is to achieve the annual sales target and to help the business to evolve the service offerings in accordance with group strategy and to meet clients’ needs.  Targets are set annually and performance against this target is reviewed over the financial year. 
  • Undertake knowledge exchange on UK Water Utility market and our current portfolio of digital solutions for Water and Wastewater Network Management
  • Adapt our services and product positioning to meet client needs
  • Review, develop and deliver the Sales Strategy
  • Provide commercial leadership for tenders and higher value proposals produced by colleagues
  • Produce tenders, proposals and supporting customer discovery documentation
  • Record and report sales data through Salesforce CRM and other agreed formats to the SASUK Commercial Director and sales team
  • Feed market intelligence back to the SASUK Commercial Director, global managers and Marketing Team
  • Identify synergies with the wider SUEZ group

Skills and Experience: (Essential)

  • Existing client network within the UK Water Sector
  • Degree in area related to Engineering, Environmental Science or other subject area relevant to the UK Water Sector
  • Proven sales background
  • Consultancy or technical background in UK Water Utility Sector or other environmental discipline
  • Detailed knowledge of the UK Water Sector, targets and initiatives
  • Team player
  • Ability to balance a varied workload and prioritise key activities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent planning, presentation and negotiation skills
