About the role

Role Summary / Purpose

Working with the  HPI & CPI Technical Manager, the HPI/CPI Product Applications graduate trainee will undergo a learning programme that is both office/laboratory based (Grangemouth) and field based. They will learn the skills needed to help support the commercial team in gaining new business through technical support, improving current business through audits and troubleshooting existing business at risk.

They will also undertake a mentoring programme that teams them with experienced Product Applications and Commercial people, to further aid their development.

  • Developing expertise in hydrocarbon process applications for refineries and petrochemical plants
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Working in a hydrocarbon laboratory environment
  • Maintaining a key focus on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
  • Over time developing into a technical expert in the process applications of refineries and petrochemical/chemical plants
  • Employing engineering and statistical skills to analyse plant process data
  • Creating technical content for reference manuals, customer manuals, marketing collateral, case histories and product fact sheets.
  • Working closely with Commercial teams, customers, and industry contacts to evaluate, and support new business initiatives.
  • Staying on top of industry trends, new chemical treatment technology, monitoring and analytical tools, equipment, and regulations that relate to domain expertise.  Particular emphasis will be placed on REACH and other regulations.  Also participate in cross-functional, cross-cultural teams to evaluate new technology.
  • Embracing EHS & playing a vital role in creating culture of safety.

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters’ Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a technical discipline.
  • Language skills; fluent in Dutch & English
  • Good oral communication skills. Comfortable developing and delivering technical presentations to senior leaders at customer sites and within Suez.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Capable of writing technical documents and clearly conveying complex technical issues in a written format.
  • Demonstrable organizational and interpersonal skills. Capable of handling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing to meet business objectives.
  • Self-starter that can accept broad based assignments and work with limited direction from manager when required.

Useful skills or abilities

  • Masters’ degree is advantage
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Good application of statistical skills to conduct troubleshooting and offer data driven solutions to process related problems in refineries and petrochemical plants
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent IT skills, including engineering programmes; for example, PROII, Hysis
  • Ability to work with or in remote cross-functional and cross-cultural teams. Inclusive, embraces teamwork.
  • Demonstrates listening, questioning, clarifying & summarizing skills to effectively communicate in 1-on-1 and small group settings.

Laboratory experience an advantage

Travel Requirements

The role will involve regular travel to client sites within the assigned area/region of UK, with occasional travel to other regions in the UK with potential opportunities to travel abroad.
