About the role

What will you be doing?

As an Assistant Energy Portfolio Manager, you'll play a vital role in supporting our Energy Portfolio Manager and driving the success of our energy initiatives. The role will be instrumental in assessing and optimising the market value for the power from our generating assets and ensuring compliance with our off-take agreements. A key part of the role will be the management of Power and Gas Purchase Agreements for our generation facilities and supporting the ongoing negotiation and tendering of these contracts. Other responsibilities will also include assessing the financial impact of hedging our Power Portfolio, becoming an Authorized Trader, and developing a Generation Forecasting model. Additionally, you'll assist in the implementation of risk tools, and evaluate new market opportunities. With a focus on distributed energy strategy, you'll contribute to initiatives such as Grid Balancing Services, Electric Vehicle Charging, Smart Grids, Private Wire, Gas to grid, and Heat Network opportunities.

This role is internally called Assistant Energy Portfolio Manager, and offers the flexibility to work across multiple locations.

The ideal candidate will have a relevant postgraduate degree in energy, sustainability, mathematics, science, engineering, or equivalent experience. Strong literacy and report writing skills are essential. Previous experience in energy trading, power markets, or the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) would be desirable, along with an understanding of decarbonization and climate policy. Your ability to manage a varied workload, demonstrate solid time management skills, and work independently will be crucial. Effective communication, interpersonal skills, and the willingness to learn and grow are important. Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft applications, Excel tables, and SharePoint, is required, as is the ability to produce presentations and reports with attention to detail. Familiarity with the UK and European energy/carbon markets, regulatory directives, and National Grid service sector contracts is a plus.
