What will I be doing?
- Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead and manage all aspects of the municipal collection operations for the contract, as well as the day‑to‑day operation of a large transfer station.
- You will ensure full compliance with the site permit, planning permissions, legal requirements, and contract commitments.
- This is a key leadership role for anyone passionate about operational excellence, sustainability, and delivering high‑quality services for the City of Doncaster.
- Health and safety is central to everything we do. You will champion a strong safety culture and ensure all activities comply with internal policies, external legislation, and industry best practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing all elements of the municipal waste and recycling collection service, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational standards.
- Taking financial responsibility for the contract, including budget management, cost control, and identifying opportunities for continual improvement.
- Leading and motivating assistant contract managers, contract supervisors, a large operational workforce, and a fleet of collection vehicles, fixed plant, and mobile plant.
- Organising and optimising collection rounds, staff allocation, vehicles, and resources to ensure maximum efficiency and service quality.
- Working closely with colleagues in the trading division to increase recycling tonnages, improve material value, and support Doncaster City Council in achieving and exceeding its sustainability and recycling targets.
What are the requirements?
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you have the right experience and a passion for delivering safe, effective, and sustainable services, we encourage you to apply — even if you don’t meet every point.
You will bring:

- IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and database systems, and experience working constructively with Trade Unions.
You must also demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety, with clear awareness of operational risks and proven experience managing safety performance. Knowledge of recycling processes and industry initiatives is highly beneficial.
The following qualifications are essential:
