As a DBA at SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, you’ll be contributing to an ever growing established company that’s helping customers reduce their impact on the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce landfill.

What will I be doing as a DBA?

As part of the Technical Services Team you will be responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of the database estate consisting of both MS SQL and Oracle, working to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases have high resilience and performance tuning. This will be done through:

Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services while maximising uptime and performance

Responsibility for providing trend analysis to the management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.

Responsibility for troubleshooting and problem solving of SQL and Oracle.

Responsibility for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollouts and upgrades.

Responsibility for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.

Responsibility for defining future road map, leading to a consolidated database platform that meets the needs of our business.

What are the requirements? (Responsibilities and Experience / Skills)


Input into the design and specification process to ensure best practice and standardisation of SQL and Oracle builds.

Install and configure SQL Server on single Servers and clusters on physical and virtual (VMWare) environments.

Using available tools (built in or 3rd party) and working with application support teams and vendors, health check SQL Server environments and propose recommendations for performance tuning and optimisation.

Working with, or as part of, cross-functional technical project teams, assist solution and technical architects to design scalable, performant and secure SQL Server installations

Contribute to capacity planning and sizing estimates

Set up:

backup and restore strategies

disaster recovery procedures

monitoring and alerting

Impact assess change documents to identify deliverables and commercial impact

Work with the DBA support team to transition installations into ongoing support, including operational acceptance documentation


Installation, configuration and performance tuning of SQL Server 2000, 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2016.

Have a clear understanding of n-tier application architecture and be able to recognise impacts or dependencies of related components on SQL server database architecture and efficiency

Good knowledge of database designs and relational databases

Experience of SQL
