As a Regional Health & Safety Manager at SUEZ recycling & recovery UK, supporting various facilities in the Central region, you’ll be contributing to a recycling and resource management company that’s helping customers reduce their impact on the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce landfill.

What will I be doing?

  • SUEZ operate many recycling and resource management facilities across the Southern regions of the UK and the role will require travel across the region on a regular basis.
  • These facilities include community recycling centres, transfer stations, composting facilities, wood processing facilities, materials recycling facilities and alternative fuel production facilities.
  • Providing assistance to the Head of Health & Safety in promoting safety compliance at an operational level
  • The Health & Safety Manager will, with the assistance of  H&S Advisors, instruct and coach employees at all levels on H&S compliance. This will involve leading the implementation of continuous improvements to compliance, actively identifying and promoting Health & Safety quality initiatives and excellence.
  • Managing and prioritising your own workload and that of the  H&S Advisors in the region, you will be responsible for arranging and managing compliance meetings for high priority regional facilities, assisting in the production and review of Risk Assessments and associated documentation.
  • Providing support to sites on all H&S compliance matters and supporting the Regional Managers and General Manager.
  • You will also need to interpret and implement new guidance and legislation across the region, assist where required in the training site managers and staff, producing documentation to satisfy legislative and management system requirements.

What are the requirements?

  • With a relevant degree (or equivalent experience), the successful candidate should have experience of working within the health & safety and / or environmental & quality management fields - ideally within waste or a production process environment.
  • There will be the opportunity and expectation to undertake further training and qualifications to strengthen disciplines, where required.
  • Experience of liaising with the Environment Agency and HSE on a regular basis and facilitating external audits would also be beneficial.
  • Experience of implementing management systems is essential to this role..
  • The multi-site and varied demands of this role mean project management experience would be highly beneficial, as would waste sector knowledge, giving a detailed understanding of the legislative drivers of the business.
  • Interacting and dealing with a broad range of operational and support staff, clear and concise communication skills are key to this role and the successful candidate should demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills, with attention to detail and a desire to progress within a successful support team.
  • Membership of a professional body will also be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence is also essential.
