As a Maintenance Operative at SUEZ, recycling and recovery UK, you’ll be contributing to an ever growing established company that’s helping customers reduce their impact on the environment, conserve natural resources by recycling and produce fuel to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

The Role

  • This position is a PERMANENT POSITION
  • The working hours are Mon – Fri, 06:00 – 14:00 and 10:00 – 18:00
  • The pay rate for this role is £8.92 p/h (£18,553 p/a) excluding overtime

What will I be doing as a Maintenance Operative for Altens East?

  • You will be working within an established maintenance team to maximise mechanical availability of the Altens East Recycling facility by helping with planned preventative maintenance and cleaning of the plant in accordance with the relevant procedures. 
  • Guided by our in house maintenance team you will be working to ensure the cleanliness of the plant does not affect its operation.
  • Working with mobile plant such as MEWPs will play a key part in carrying out this role.
  • Your task will be to undertake the cleaning of key parts of the sorting plant, ranging from mechanical, magnetic and optical sorters to conveyor belts, ensuring each machine is clean and ready to begin processing for the next shift. 
  • The work will involve keeping and maintaining maintenance records but most importantly we want people who can show a proactive approach to work with other personnel to find solutions on potential issues around the site, this will include carrying out plant clean downs and working with other teams to minimise disruption to the production process. 
  • You will ensure that all aspects of plant maintenance is carried out safely, in line with the strict procedures and assist with and maintaining a high standard of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) compliance for the facility. 

What are the requirements? (experience and qualifications)

  • The successful candidate may be in the process of gaining a formal Mechanical Engineering or similar qualification, or they may simply have the desire to progress and develop their existing hands on knowledge of any type of mechanical equipment such as conveyors, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics and / or pneumatics.
  • Experience of operating fixed plant, working at height and mobile plant would be beneficial, however not essential.

  • A flexible approach to working is essential since there will be times when the role will require the candidate to assist plant operators and clean down the plant outside of production hours.
