Are you technically qualified with experience in the water treatment industry, including proposals and sales? Or are you currently in an operational or engineering role, but interested in using your technical expertise to develop new business?

What will you be doing as a Proposals Engineer - Services?

Working closely with the sales and operation team managers, you will be the dedicated support and owner of the technical proposal development process on contracts, with both existing and new customers, from a range of industrial markets, including petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food & drink.

These contracts are to provide long term services relating to process water, wastewater and water reuse treatment plants, as well as build, own & operate (BOO) and ongoing technical support / maintenance contracts.

Core activities and responsibilities are listed below:

  • Understand the customer needs (Request for Quotation) to define the scope of services and associated costs (labour, sub-contractors, consumables, utilities etc.)
  • Identification, evaluation, prioritization and mitigation of business risks (performance, contractual, execution, etc.)
  • Clearly write proposals, visualising and producing all technical documentation linked to projects (areas of impeovements, process descriptions, P&ID’s etc.)
  • Underwriting the risk associated with these opportunities throughout the sales cycle from lead qualification to contract signature and handing the project off to the operation team
  • Technically audit water treatment plants
  • Adhere to all internal procedures related to bid preparation.

Key to success will involve establishing strong relationships across internal functions, optimising interaction between business unit’s, maximising opportunities. An adept negotiator, you’ll assist the sales team in closing orders, whilst collating information and data to identify improvements that can be made.

What will you need and what will you gain?

With a technical background and understanding of the processes in the water and wastewater operations / engineering industry, you’ll have knowledge of bid management and contract development, either directly or through sales, business development or operational roles.

Essential requirements include:

  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in relevant subject (mechanical, chemical or environmental engineering)
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal). Additional language skills are beneficial
  • Ability to travel, as required.
