About the role

The Process Engineer will join the European Process Engineering and Pilots team, applying technical skills in supporting the growth, development, sale and execution of municipal waste water solution in the municipal and industrial sector. The solutions will be using the companies core membrane technologies, such as MBR and MABR as well as associated pre - and post-treatment systems.  The Process Engineer will work with the pilots team during process development stage, with the regional Sales and Commercial teams team during project development and bidding stage and Project Management, Engineering functions, Commissioning as well as Service during project execution and follow up stage. Aside from that the process engineer will interact as needed with the global product management, process engineering and technology teams.    

What will I be doing?

We are currently seeking a high-energy, self-motivated, creative and dedicated process engineer with proven track record to lead complex process designs.  The position requires a combination of process design expertise in membrane-based desalination systems and a solid background on upstream wastewater treatment processes.

Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Develop technically accurate and compliant bid strategies to win new projects by supporting proposal preparation.  Work as a team with Sales and Commercial Engineering: specification review, proposal review, and preparation/review of process design calculations, mass balance, PFD, P&ID, and system layout drawings.
  • Develop and execute client-specific process designs for new projects, including pre- and post-treatment requirements
  • Act as a lead the process engineer on complex flow schemes, including owning the mass balance, driving cost effective designs, leading a team of process engineering experts in various technologies, leading the technical communication externally with customers and with the internal commercial and engineering teams
  • Prepare performance guarantee documents on effluent quality and operation and maintenance cost; lead associated risk reviews.
  • Develop process designs and experimental programs for pilots to ensure competitiveness and process optimization or even new solutions. Review and approve operating changes. Review work plans prepared by Pilot Project Manager. Review and approve pilot reports.
  • Assist Sales Manager in strategic positioning on key projects, including building long-term relationships with customers from the sales cycle through to long-term operation.
  • Develop/maintain relationships with key consultants and with key regulators.  Provide support with respect to regulatory requirements.
  • Support project execution through review of control documents, engineering drawings, and O&M manuals for projects.  Support plant commissioning and performance testing.
  • Troubleshoot issues raised in operating plants to support the Service team, as required.
  • Develop and push benchmarks and Lessons learned processes to drive best process engineering culture within the team

What are the requirements?

Required Qualifications/experience/skills:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other technical discipline with emphasis in process design and controls of wastewater treatment unit operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant design and engineering experience, preferably > 10 years.
  • Core design experience on membrane-based technologies such as MBR, MABR, T-UF and its use for wastewater applications
  • Experience in competitive conventional technologies, such as CAS, SBR, MBBR etc..
  • Experience in biological process modelling and simulation (E.g. BioWIN, GPSX, SIMBA)
  • Ability to work independently to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to speak effectively before groups and customers, clients, and other employees of organization.
  • Ability to contribute on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally up to 25%;
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and most relevant design software tools;
  • Fluency in English (oral and written)

Desired characteristics :

  • Experience in the field of further water and/or wastewater treatment technologies, including process design and optimization of conventional solids removal systems (e.g. sieves, clarifiers, sand filtration etc.), aerobic and anaerobic biological systems (e.g. UASB etc.) and any other technologies applicable to WTPs and/or WWTPs (oxidation, adsorption etc.).
  • Experience in wwtp controls engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in any other European language (oral and written), such as French, German, Spanish or Turkish, would be beneficial.
  • Experience with other process design and simulation software tools.
