About the role

What will I be doing?

Report to the Tax Manager/Senior Managers and Head of Tax to assist in fulfilling the tax compliance and tax accounting obligations of SUEZ R&R UK group (SUEZ) and its associates (approximately 40 entities). 

  • This is a broad role and will give you the opportunity to both shadow and assist members of the Tax team, gaining an insight into both the technical and compliance aspects of each area of tax.
  • Throughout your apprenticeship you will be supported and coached by highly experienced members of the Tax team, several of whom are dual qualified as both chartered accountants and chartered tax advisors.
  • Assisting with preparation of individual company tax computations; this will include imputing data into the tax software and analysing the profit and loss and balance sheet information contained within company accounts.
  • Supporting the Indirect Tax Assistant (VAT and Landfill) in preparing the support needed for the VAT and Landfill Tax returns.
  • Assisting the Employment Tax Assistant, to collate and analyse benefits and expenses data.
  • Assisting on ad hoc projects and advisory work as required within the Tax team.

What are the requirements?

  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) – Grade 5 or above
  • Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) – Grade 6 or above
  • Minimum 3 A level passes (or equivalent) at Grade C and above
  • Degree 2:1 or above - graduated within the last 3 years.
  • Applicants will be accepted with degrees outside of finance if the applicant can clearly demonstrate their reason for pursuing a career in finance.
  • No prior knowledge or experience in Tax is required as full training will be provided (both ‘on the job’ and through studying for ACCA qualification).
  • Computer literate with a very good working knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate should be confident to communicate with colleagues and individuals outside of the team, including HMRC and external providers.
  • Whilst the candidate will be fully supported in their role, they should be able to work with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, organised and able to work to tight deadlines. 
  • Significant attention to detail and ability to self-review, is critical.

The graduate role is initially for a period of two years, during which the Graduate Tax Assistant will be supported in studying for their ACCA qualification.  Continued employment will be conditional on passing the initial ACCA qualifications.  

Subject to the successful completion of the graduate scheme, it is anticipated that the position will be extended to a permanent role. Further assistance will be given to complete the ACCA qualification and ultimately support the individual in completing their Chartered Tax Association (CTA) qualification.
