About the role

What will I be doing?

  • Reporting to the Regional Manager, you will be responsible for controlling all elements of the domestic waste and recycling collection along with the processing and bulking out of recyclable materials in line with the sites permit and planning permission and for delivering the terms of the contract.
  • Health and Safety is of paramount importance and SUEZ places great emphasis on managing our operations safely and responsibly in line with internal and external policies, procedures and health and safety law and regulations.
  • The role involves ensuring that all facets of the collection business are carried out in compliance with all of our legal obligations and SUEZ own internal standards to ensure that SUEZ is perceived as a reputable, value for money service provider to members of the public. The role also carries financial responsibility for maximising company profit. 
  • The role carries direct management responsibility for assistant contract managers, a team of contract supervisors, a large workforce of manual employees and a fleet of refuse collection and recycling vehicles as well as fixed and mobile plant.
  • Responsibilities also include ensuring that the collection rounds, vehicles and employees are organised and managed in the most effective manner and working with colleagues from the trading division, to add value to the recycling materials.

What are the requirements?

  • You will be required to demonstrate a good track record of managing a similar large logistical operation and maintaining excellent working relationships with local authority clients.
  • Experience of successfully restructuring service arrangements or introducing new services is also a requirement.  
  • Ability to problem solve and plan logistics, including complex collection requirements, will be required.
  • Financial reporting skills, a good track record of managing a budget and the ability to communicate at a high level, negotiate and to motivate a large workforce are also all essential.
  • Experience of dealing with Trade Unions in challenging situations would be an advantage. We will also require the successful applicant to be IT literate and competent in using database systems and Microsoft Office Packages.
  • You must be passionate about health and safety and be able to show a clear awareness of the potential issues within operations of this nature and how these can be successfully managed. 
  • A good track record of health and safety management will also be sought.
  • We will also be looking for a manager with a keen interest in recycling and an understanding of initiatives used within the waste industry.
  • Candidates must hold the following qualifications: CPC in Road Haulage Operations, COTC in Waste Management 4TSH, a full driving licence and a NEBOSH certificate.
