About the Role
Location : Thornbury / Bristol
- Salary : £28,000.00 per annum / £13.42 per hour
- Working 40 hours per week
- Shift pattern Monday to Friday
- Start times: 08:30am - 16:30pm
- There may be a requirement to work Saturdays on occasion.

What will I be doing?
Through our waste contract with our client, SUEZ has made a commitment to set up re-use shops on our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC's) to resell donated items.
- As a shop operative you will be in charge of the daily running of our re-use shop, based at the Thornbury HWRC – but supporting the 4 HWRC’s on the South Gloucestershire contract.
- Liaising with the Re-Use manager to make sure the shop is fully stocked and that everything is properly stored, labelled and made ready for sale.
- Collect items form the 4 HWRC’s
- Pat test electrical items
- Replenish stock
- Promote the re-sale shop
This will involve you:
- Merchandising stock, organising, preparing, pricing and presenting donations for sale, to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Manage stock and communicate to the re-use manager what stock the shop needs delivering.
- Reconciling credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds.
- Make certain that collections and deliveries are arranged in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Maintain the security of the shop premises and stock.
- At the same time as providing excellent customer experience to encourage repeat custom and the smooth and profitable running of the shop.
What are the requirements?
- You will be passionate about the environment and in particular this re-use project, with prior retail experience and a real enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.
- Either you will have knowledge of recycling and upcycling, or willing to rapidly develop it, but you should have an understanding of maintaining stock, merchandising and the ability to handle financial aspects of retail, along with:
- A flexible attitude to work as shift work and occasional weekend will be required.
- Excellent teamwork skills as you will also work closely with site staff on the HWRCs.
- You must be able to drive a 7.5t lorry
