About the role

What will I be doing?

You’ll provide critical operational support across multiple transport regions, acting as deputy to the Distribution Senior Operations Manager and covering key planning functions across sites.

Your day-to-day will include:
• Managing daily bulk transport operations across regions
• Covering Distribution Planners to ensure continuity and minimal disruption
• Supporting leadership during absences or escalations
• Tracking subcontractor performance and operational KPIs
• Analysing transport data and performance trends to drive improvements
• Ensuring compliance with safety, legal and operational standards
• Coaching and mentoring Planners and supporting onboarding
• Liaising with internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to align planning and service delivery
• Leading incident response and root cause analysis

This role requires travel across regional locations as needed. Overnight stays are expected but will be rare.

 

What are the requirements?

Essential:
• Experience in transport, logistics, or distribution at supervisory or management level
• Strong IT skills, including Excel and experience with Transport Management Systems (TMS)
• Ability to deputise effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Understanding of national distribution operations and subcontractor performance
• Excellent planning, leadership, and stakeholder management skills

Desirable:
• CPC (National) in Road Transport Operations, or working towards it
• Qualification or training in logistics, supply chain, or business management
• IOSH or other Health & Safety qualification
