The role

TerraCycle operates a unique and dynamic recycling business for hard to recycle materials. In order to continue to grow and create innovative recycling solutions TerraCycle needs to ensure regulatory compliance to all relevant regulations. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist will develop, implement and manage the company’s regulatory program for compliance with applicable laws and regulations relating to its recycling business. Responsibilities include managing the company’s compliance with state and federal/regional industry laws, regulations and procedures. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist will ensure that each step in TerraCycle’s unique recycling supply chain is compliant with all appropriate regulations. The primary markets of focus include France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, United States and Canada.  

What will I be doing?

Ensure compliance to all relevant regulations at each step-in supply chain: transportation, handling, storage and recycling.

Understand various state, federal (national/regional) and global recycling regulations and requirements

Build and maintain database of all appropriate regulations and governing bodies 

Oversee compliance for international waste shipments

Develop and implement self-assessments for new challenging waste streams outlining regulatory requirements and how to ensure compliance

Seek collaborative solutions to complex regulatory needs of clients using creative and thoughtful approaches.

Knowledge of environmental regulations (i.e. ADR, EA, DEP, EPA, DOT, CFR, etc.)

Collaborate with various team leads locally and nationally to support various program initiatives and needs.

Communicate government environment agencies to complete required permitting steps

Develop risk assessments

Conduct third party audits

Develop an understanding of regulations and permit conditions at recycling facilities.


What are the requirements?

Degree preferred in a relevant field

+3 years of experience

Competence in working government authorities to develop, negotiate, and obtain permits and develop other regulatory compliance documents; proven track record in successful permit development preferred.

Strong leadership and excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analyses for a general audience in written and oral formats.

A collaborative attitude, with the self-direction and motivation to complete work independently when needed.

Project management skills and experience are required.
