About the role

What will I be doing as a Health & Wellbeing Manager?

This is a role with the primary responsibility for you to design, implement and manage a programme to address and control bioaerosol risks within our organisation. You will ensure an approach of continuous improvement, with full compliance of current Health and Safety legislation and industry best practice (ISO Standards), monitoring and maintaining performance against the overall strategy.

Some specific duties you will undertake:

  • Design, implement and manage a programme of occupational monitoring to workplace risks around chemical, physical, ergonomic, biological or psychosocial aspects.
  • Work with Industry leaders and organisations such as WISH, ESA, HSL, HSE to support the occupational monitoring programme deployed across SUEZ UK basing it on guidance and standards in order to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Undertake surveys and evaluate risks to health in the workplace, accurately measuring and sampling levels of exposure, using specialist equipment.
  • Consider all options of control such as ventilation, containment, personal protective equipment (hierarchy of controls) to find cost effective solutions to problems.
  • Manage the Occupational Health Surveillance programme ensuring our supplier providing services remains compliant against the schedule.
  • Communicate and liaise with our providers of surveillance and referral services to ensure continued focus with the contractual service level agreement implemented.
  • Lead the Wellbeing strategy in collaboration with the HR support services designed by our employees for our employees.
  • Ensure continuity, engagement and promotion of the Safety in Mind programme which is embedded across the organisation.

We’ll look to you to provide expert advice and input when SUEZ are liaising with regulatory bodies around health risks and well as to develop learning and development programmes around health issues, such as asbestos and COSHH awareness.

What are the requirements?

Given the specialist knowledge required for this role you will need a demonstrable and current understanding of Health and Safety legislation, policies and processes, gained working in an occupational hygienist based or related role, implementing programmes of health risks.

Relevant skills and experience include:

  • Biomedical sciences, engineering or similar qualification
  • Membership of BOHS (British Occupational Hygiene Society)
  • Understanding of Bioaerosol risks facing the Waste sector
  • NEBOSH Health & Wellbeing (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience of the H&S legislative framework

What is also essential is the willingness to develop your skillset, managerial and / or subject matter, as SUEZ will invest in a structured development plan enabling you to progress within the organisation.
