About the role

Based at Higher Swan Lane fleet workshop, you will be working 45 hours over 5 days, Monday to Friday. This is a full time, permanent role with a basic salary of £41,091 per annum. You will be highly skilled and an excellent communicator, able to drive the team to deliver required results.

What will I be doing as a Workshop Controller?

  • Provide assistance for updating and scheduling routine maintenance inspections and checks.
  • Ensure on time repair solution are sought so that downtime is reduced.
  • Control any delays to repairs to ensure efficiency is maintained and on time repair is achieved.
  • Make on time decisions for schedule changes to resolve conflicts with daily operations schedule.
  • Through supervision ensure all work carried out is done in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate with Operational counterparts to understand their exact requirements.
  • Prioritise and delegate work to fabrication staff using effective communication, ensuring work is carried out and recorded.
  • Recognise and address staff strengths and weaknesses and coach them accordingly.
  • Ensure all fabrication engineers always adhere to Suez Quality Standards.
  • Ensure all staff always adhere to Health & Safety rules, that work areas are clean and tidy and fabricators are cleaning up after themselves, having a 5S ethos.
  • Identify practical solutions for dealing with difficult and sensitive situations relating to staff that may arise from time to time.
  • Plan a weekly schedule to the benefit of the operations requirements, update the schedule daily, and to ensure the department has ample work to cover available resource.
  • Review Tacho and LOLER records and ensure these are pre-planned to fit in with the operation and within the legal criteria.
  • To ensure all tools and equipment are fit for purpose by ensuring that they used in the prescribed manner and that technicians are returning them to their place of storage immediately after use.  To immediately report any loss, shortage, damage or malfunction of tools and equipment or if any additional tools or equipment are required to complete repairs.
  • To report any activity that falls outside of the company policy and procedures to management.
  • Form and maintain excellent relationships with shift supervisors, managers and site operatives.


What are the requirements?

In order to make an immediate impact, we are seeking:

  • Previous experience of controlling and supervising welding and fabrication facilities
  • Ability to apply estimates to the job and through pro-active supervision ensure costs are not exceeded
  • Previous experience of controlling steel stock and consumables.
  • Approved apprenticeship in fabrication/engineering or equivalent.
  • Health & Safety qualification, IOSH or higher.
  • Supervisory experience or qualification.
