About the role

The Lead Laboratory Analyst (LLA) will take responsibility for the day to day workload within the SUEZ Water Sciences Laboratory (SWSL) and will be challenged to meet KPIs on turnaround time, throughput and on time reporting to internal and external customers. The LLA will set the daily tasks for a team of 3-4 Laboratory Analysts to complete whilst leading the response to changing demands throughout the day – for example emergency fast turnaround analysis requests.

The LLA will lead and develop the laboratory quality assurance system to ensure compliance to ISO 17025, working closely with the Laboratory Team Leader and Quality Team. The LLA will take ownership of all daily, weekly and monthly UKAS tasks and lead internal/external audits, whilst ensuring operations within the SWSL conform to the established ISO 17025 Quality System.

What will I be doing?

  • To perform safely analytical tests on samples received into the SUEZ Water Sciences Laboratory (SWSL) using the standard operating procedures, whilst conforming to the established ISO 17025 Quality System.
  • Lead by example by following existing procedures and HSE protocol to carry out routine water analysis within the laboratory in a safe manner and identify where improvements to the safe systems of work can be made.
  • Be a lead member of the SWSL Quality Team to ensure the laboratory maintains its high level of excellence in ISO 17025.
  • Be proactive, ensuring the daily workload is carried out by the team in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in laboratory throughput by prioritising workload of analysts within the lab.
  • Work with the global SUEZ ISO 9001 accredited quality management system.
  • Audit the analytical performance of the analysts to ensure compliance with the quality system.
  • To take responsibility for the internal quality audits and actions arising from these audits.
  • To help develop instrument techniques, ensuring adequate calibrations and QC are in place and that the laboratory analysts have sufficient training.
  • Be available to provide out of hours cover, in the event of a plant emergency by means of participating in an on call rota (1 week in 6 approximately)

What are the requirements?

  • Degree/HND in Biochemistry/Chemistry or related science
  • Qualification in auditing advantageous
  • LIMS Administration
  • Theoretical & practical knowledge of the principles of laboratory testing (essential)
  • Experience of Quality systems such as ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 (essential)
  • Experience in auditing quality systems (essential)
  • Experience in a customer facing role (desirable)
  • Experience of water, waste water, cooling water and boiler water in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, food & beverage industries (desirable)
  • Knowledge of industrial water / effluent treatment chemistry (desirable)
  • Knowledge of boiler and cooling system water chemistry (desirable)
  • Experience in developing analytical techniques (desirable)
  • Good awareness of all HSE aspects in a laboratory environment (i.e. COSHH, RA) (essential)
