Our Herrington laboratory is searching for a Chemist to join our team, to process and analyse samples for a number of persistent organic pollutants.
In a return we offer salary of £32,291 to £37,878, plus up to 10% Bonus (~ £3,713), Company Pension, 25 Holiday Days + Bank Holiday, and benefits catalogue.
Total Package at the time of joining up to £40,849 depending on experience. - About the role

What will I be doing?
As our Chemist, your main duties will sample preparation and testing of a variety of matrices for organic analysis, including Incinerator bottom and Air pollution control residues, in order to generate analytical reports for our energy from waste facilities. You will be required to run and maintain instrumentation such as GCMS, GCFID, GCTQMS, LCMSMS, TOC and IC as well as validation of new methods/techniques.
Your time will be split between laboratory, and our office department (same building), in order for you to be able to complete analysis and compile reports, working to ISO17025 standards.- Our setting is not a standard production line. Our samples vary in frequency and our small and dynamic team is used to organising and taking an ownership in what they do.
- The working pattern is 0900 – 1700, Monday-Friday but we can be flexible between site opening times.
- This is an on-site position and you would be based at our Washington Laboratory full time.
What are the requirements?
- Experience working in laboratory settings and following standard operating procedures.
- Graduate level degree in relevant science disciple.
- Ownership for laboratory operations focusing on organic analysis and specific methods for extracting and analysing persistent Organic pollutants.
- Knowledge and Experience in chromatographic techniques and instrumentation such as GCMS, GCTQMS, LCMSMS, GCFID, TOC and/or IC would be advantageous.
- Experience with method development and validation.
- Great communication, organization, and proactiveness to problem solving.
- Demonstrate good safety awareness.
- Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities and projects should the need arise.
